A Call to Innovation

 

I had someone explain business to me using the chart above (I am pretty sure they got it from Drucker). The red line is the trajectory of any growing business. However, there is always a time when the company peaks. When the company peaks doing what it is doing there are only two options. One, it dies by shrinking. Two, it innovates to save itself. Any business must continually innovate itself to stay alive and growing.

The lesson is directly applicable to life. There are times when you can only get so far doing what you are doing and knowing what you know. These times are personal crucible moments which require a major life shift to proceed to the next level.  If you are having a hard time thinking about this think Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite, the guy never innovated after high school football.
