The Future of a Radical Price by Chris Anderson

Book: Free: The Future of a Radical Price by Chris Anderson

Rating: Best Ever

Lesson Learned: The digital world requires a new economy

This is the most significant book concerning business I have ever read. Anderson explores how bits (data on the internet) want to be free (in price and in liberty) while atoms (stuff you buy in a store) require pricing models. The ramification of data ‘wanting’ to be free turns normal economic theory on its head. While this might seem like a race to the bottom it really is the Liberation of information. When you rethink what intellectual property rights are and who is benefiting from piracy you begin to capitalize on the world the internet brings with it.

I need to admit a bias. The reason I benefited from this book so much is that I feel the same way about the internet as ultraconservatives do about the private sector. The internet can do more good than anything available if it were not shackled with arbitrary laws and arcane philosophy. We try to regulate the internet like we do the physical world and it doesn’t make sense.
